Grand Design RV Service and Repair in Chino, CA

Grand Design owners tend to use their trailers hard. Solitude and Reflection fifth wheels get towed long distances and lived in for weeks at a time, and Momentum toy haulers go to the dunes loaded. That is the good news and the reason things wear. McBride's services Grand Design trailers at our shop in Chino, near where the 60 meets the 71, and we do the work most trailer owners struggle to get done in one place: slide-outs, roofs, suspension and running gear, water damage, and full collision and paint in a 40-foot enclosed booth. The shop has been in the same family in Chino since 1967.

Which Grand Design models do you service

Which Grand Design models do you service?

The full towable line: Solitude and Momentum at the heavy end, Reflection in both fifth wheel and travel trailer form, and Imagine and Transcend on the lighter side. Fifth wheels, travel trailers and toy haulers are all normal work here, and there is no size on the Grand Design lineup we cannot get into a bay or into the paint booth.

Model matters more on this brand than owners expect, because the systems change as you go up the line. The heavier fifth wheels run hydraulic slides and carry more axle load. The lighter travel trailers use in-wall electric slide systems that fail in a completely different way. Tell us the model and the year when you call and we will know which conversation we are having.

What goes wrong on a Grand Design trailer?

What goes wrong on a Grand Design trailer

Not much that is unique to the brand, and that is worth saying plainly. Grand Design builds a laminated, aluminum-framed trailer with a composite backer and a one-piece roof membrane, which is solid construction. Almost everything that fails is a system rather than a defect, and most of those systems come from the same suppliers the whole industry uses. What we see:

$

Slide-outs, and which kind you have decides the repair.

The in-wall electric systems on lighter models lose synchronization between the two sides, and the gear tracks wear. Running a slide that has gone out of sync is what turns a twenty-minute adjustment into a real repair, so stop using it the moment it binds. Hydraulic slides on the heavier fifth wheels fail differently: seals, fluid and rams rather than sync and tracks.

$

Slide roof and seal maintenance.

Every slide is a hole in the side of the trailer with a rubber seal around it. The slide-out roofs and the top wiper seals are the most common water entry point on a fifth wheel, more common than the main roof, and they get inspected least because you cannot see them from the ground.

$

Suspension and running gear on the heavy end.

Solitude and Momentum are heavy, and axles, bearings, shackles and hangers take a beating over distance. Owners running the 15 to Vegas or the 10 out toward the dunes put more miles on in one trip than a local trailer sees in a year, and bearings do not announce themselves before they fail.

$

Ramp door and garage systems on Momentum.

The ramp door seal is the hardest-working seal on a toy hauler, the garage floor carries load that the rest of the trailer does not, and the onboard generator works harder here than on a motorhome because it is running the whole coach. That work is covered on our toy hauler repair page.

$

Water where it should not be.

Laminated walls delaminate once water gets behind the skin, and floors go soft. Both are covered on our RV floor repair page, and the roof side is on our RV roof repair and replacement page.

Do I have to go to a Grand Design dealer for service?

For manufacturer-covered repairs on a trailer still inside its coverage period, the manufacturer decides where that work is done, so start with them. Everything else is your choice, and that is most of what we do: collision and body work, insurance claims, paint, water damage, suspension, and any repair you are paying for yourself.

The practical reason owners call us is availability. Dealer service departments prioritize the coaches they sold and the units on their lot, and a trailer can sit for a long time waiting for a bay. We schedule your trailer in and give you a drop-off date and a pickup date.

Can you repair collision damage on a fifth wheel or toy hauler?

Yes, and it is the work we are best set up for. A fifth wheel takes damage in specific places: the front cap from road debris and low-clearance contact, the sides from tight turns and awnings, and the rear on a toy hauler from ramp and hitch incidents. Fiberglass caps crack and delaminate rather than dent, and repairing one properly means a layup and refinish rather than filler, then blending the paint into the surrounding panel so the repair does not read as a patch.

That last part is why the booth matters. A 40-foot enclosed booth lets us finish and cure a full-length trailer in one controlled pass, including the multi-color graphics these trailers carry. Most shops near Chino do not have a booth that fits one. More on that work is on our RV paint and body repair page.

We run the insurance side in-house too, documenting the damage and working supplements directly with your adjuster. See our RV insurance claims page.

Do you offer mobile RV repair or house calls

Do you offer mobile RV repair or house calls?

No. We work on trailers at 13788 Oaks Ave in Chino only, and we do not travel to homes, campgrounds or storage lots. On a towable the jobs that matter most are exactly the ones that need a bay: pulling a slide room, getting under the suspension safely, and any body or paint repair. Tow it to Chino and it all happens in one place.

Frequently asked questions about Grand Design service

My slide is stuck halfway out. What should I do?

Stop operating it. Repeated attempts on a slide that has jammed or lost sync are what turn an adjustment into a mechanism replacement. Get it to us and we will diagnose it before it gets more expensive.

How often should the slide seals and slide roofs be checked?

At least once a year, and before any long trip. They are the most common water entry point on a fifth wheel and the least inspected, because you cannot see them without getting up there.

Do you service the axles and bearings on a Solitude or Momentum?

Yes. On a heavy fifth wheel that tows real distances, bearings and suspension components are wear items rather than lifetime parts, and they are worth looking at on a schedule rather than after a failure on the 15.

Can you match Grand Design's graphics after a repair?

Yes. Matching and blending into the existing finish, including panels that have already faded, is standard work for us and is what the booth and our color matching exist for.

Do you work on travel trailers as well as fifth wheels?

Both, plus toy haulers. More on the travel trailer side is on our travel trailer repair page.

Where are you, and how far do people tow?

We are at 13788 Oaks Ave in Chino, CA 91710. Trailers come to us from across the Inland Empire, off the 91 and the 15 from Corona, Norco, Eastvale and Riverside, down the 57 from Yorba Linda and North Orange County, and from the storage lots around Chino and Ontario where most of them live between trips.

Labor rate is kinda high so I’d only use them for the stuff I couldn’t do myself. Overall good experience. Seemed like it was there longer than needed could’ve been waiting on parts not sure. I’d use them again. - 6/17/2026

I took my 1997 renovation project Fleetwood PaceArrow in for major mechanical service. I also paid for an hour of inspection on my failed slide out and got a great quote on the labor and parts for when I'm ready to invest in that repair next. I was a little weary initially that the service price on the phone when I called was told to me as around $500 range and then in person at drop-off the price was actually around $900 for the major service. But the girl who took my appointment over the phone had warned me that she was new and wasn't certain of the prices on anything. The service was great and I'm glad I chose to continue despite the wide price difference to what I was anticipating. Mike and Danny are stellar, and I know the place I'll be bringing my renovation back to with any repair needs in the future that I can't handle myself. The quotes for the slide out, and suggested drive train work, were both also very reasonable. - 6/04/2026

Took my toy hauler for an estimate to fix slide, generator and transfer fuel pump. Parts needed to be ordered and since I had a trip coming up I picked up my trailer. When parts arrived took it back and it was completed in 2 days. Their staff is very friendly. What I really like about them is their scheduling. Gave me a date and time for both drop offs and pick ups. I was very satisfied with their work and highly recommend them. - 3/12/2026
